Soo Joo Park has been a spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris for a decade, so it’s no surprise the supermodel and musician takes her skincare seriously. As someone who’s always on the go, Park’s typical routine is a happy medium between a multi-step regimen something a little more laid back. “I don’t go as far as 6 to 9 steps, but I always try to cleanse and I [avoid] abrasive cleansing foams,” she says. “I love to use Micellar solution and a non-bubbly cleansing gel, and then I focus a lot on adding serums before sunblock.”

The product Park is most interested in incorporating into her beauty routine? L’Oréal Paris’ latest launch, the Bright Reveal 12% Niacinamide + Amino Sulfonic Acid + Ferulic Acid Dark Spot Serum, which helps to fade dark spots and post-acne marks and even out skin tone for a brighter complexion. “I’m really keen on trying the Niacinamide Dark Spot Serum because I have a lot of pigmentation and freckles,” she says.

According to dermatologist Dr. Julia Carroll, niacinamide—also known as vitamin B3—is one of the hottest ingredients of the moment. “The nice part about Niacinamide is that it helps with pigmentation, which is a major concern across all ages. It’s also helpful for supporting the skin barrier and helping the skin repair itself and it’s anti-inflammatory,” she says. “People who have acne or rosacea, niacinamide might help to decrease that inflammation. The great thing about it is that it’s really tolerable. It’s one of those ingredients that you can mix and match. It pairs well with lots of other active ingredients, but it doesn’t irritate the skin.”

Ahead, we chatted Park at L’Oréal’s 2024 The Worth of Science Event in Toronto.

L'Oréal Paris

From Viola Davis to Cyndi Bruna, L’Oréal Paris has a reputation for choosing inspirational and iconic women as ambassadors. What is it like to be part of the L’Oréal Paris “dream team”?

“How would you feel if you were standing beside Viola Davis, Jane Fonda and Cindy [Bruna]? It’s an absolute dream. It’s incredible to feel the sisterhood and camaraderie. We are all quite different, but when we’re [together] we have some really amazing conversations. I remember the last time I was in Paris right before the Défilé, we had a dinner and I sat by Liya Kebede and Cindy Bruna. The entire time we talked about what it is to be a woman and how to find your center. We all were like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe we’re having this conversation in the middle of fashion week.’”

You’re also the first Asian-American woman to be a L’Oréal ambassador, what does that mean to you?

“I was born in Korea but I grew up in California, and growing up, I didn’t see too many people that looked like me on TV. Now to be working for a global brand like L’Oréal with a legacy of over 100 years is an honour. Maybe if [others] look and see a girl that looks like themselves on TV, I might make them feel like they can do this too.”

What are your must-have skincare products and why do they work for you?

“Right now I’m using a lot from the Revitalift line. I like to see that they work so I can truly endorse the products. At the moment, I [use the] L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Derm Intensive 12% Vitamin C Serum, and then right after that, I’ll put on UV protection. The UV fluid is incredible. It’s very sheer and easy to just put in your bag and take it around. Besides that, I just have a little gua sha roller.”

What’s one piece of skincare advice you can share with us?

“I try not to exfoliate as much anymore. When I was young I used to buy quite abrasive scrubs, but I’ve learned from L’Oréal and dermatologists that it’s not that great to exfoliate like that. I go to a facialist when I need a deeper exfoliation. My best exfoliation tip is to use a warm face towel [in circular motions] after cleansing. I’ve also been watching a lot of face yoga and face massage videos and I really try to focus on my lymphatic drainage when I have time. It helps with your circulation and your immunity and health in general, so I do that a lot.”
